About the artists
Rory Bernard-Coogan drew the adjectives that appear on the blocks. He doesn’t see himself as an artist, but his talent is undeniable, and I appreciate it. Rory is currently attending college while working as a waiter.
Alanna Coogan is a graphic designer and artist/writer. She designed the lovely sheltering tree logo for TreeTop Blocks and has a wonderful understanding of color. She has been the patient implementer of my sometimes annoying directions and the one who laid out the original design of the website. Emily De Nicolais drew the gorgeous ‘mom’ block. I had 7 or 8 different artists work on her before finding Emily. At the time she was working as a freelance illustrator and painter in Brooklyn, NY. However, these days she primarily designs and creates installation work for Anthropologie in south Florida.
Kathy Hopwood is a North Carolina artist. She playfully drew many of the action images, as well as the whimsical ‘treehouse’ and ‘rocket.’ I love the work she did for me and her paper pulp sculptures and colorful dragonflies. You can see more of her work at kathyhopwood.com
Carolyn Reece-Tomlin drew the ‘Alanna’ block perfectly. I’m grateful. Carolyn does deeply emotional large scale figurative paintings that include dream-like imagery.
Phyllis Saroff is an artist whose work appears in a number of children’s books and natural sciences publications, including Ranger Rick magazine. Her drawings are attentive to anatomical detail in animals and plants, but she also illustrates fantasy. Her drawing for the ‘Rory’ block is great, and her ‘hears’ and ‘the picture’ are enchanting.
